He requested him such that Sherlock Holmes can solve the case in his story. Sir Arthur gave this story to Agatha Christie rather than writing himself. Christie wrote her famous suspense thriller "The Mysterious Affair at Styles". In the novel lady Emily Inglethorp died by poisoning. Famous fictitious detective character Hercule Poirot solved the murder mystery. In reality, this was based on the murder of Lady Garnet in Sherwood hotel, Bangalore. This case remained unsolved for ever. Lady Garnet didn't have a Hercule Poirot to find her murderer. So after death, she she searches for her killer over hundred years.
Modern styles Sherwood hotel in Bangalore was built in 1982. It was one of the most luxurious hotels of India at that time. Many renowned Raja-Maharaja to politicians, writers and other famous persons spend their times here. Anyway, let's come to Madam Frances Garnett-Orme's story. It was the summer of 1991. She was a 49 year old British spiritualist. After her fiancé's death, she gained the ability to communicate with spirits. Her friend Miss Mountstephen, was staying with her, one day she left for Lucknow. After that on a morning, Miss Garnett was found dead in her room. The door was locked from inside. In the autopsy report prussic acid was found in her body. At first police assumed this as a suicide, but they didn't find any suicide note. After some days this became a mystery when the doctor who did Lady Garnett's autopsy also found as dead by poisoning. People gossiping Miss Mountstephen killed them by her mystic power from Mysore 700 KM far from there. Miss Mountstephen later arrested on charges of murder Miss Garnett, but later she was released.
The murder mystery was never resolved.

Sherwood was renovated as Sherwood Suites in 2006 and Garnett's spirit still haunts there. She checks all rooms probably for her murderer. Many guests have found suddenly doors are opened by some invisible force. Some of them have seen her apparitions roaming on corridors, staircase and the roof of the hotel. People who confronted her told that ghost of Miss Garnett checked them carefully and then dissolved. She looked very sad and cold. Sometimes she sings and whispers in herself. Her voice was recorded several times too.
